Why you should never peel a tomato?
Tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene, an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage and prevents heart diseases and cancer of the prostate, lung, breast, bladder, ovaries, colon and pancreas. If you don’t enjoy the wonderful flavours of tomatoes, you may still want to eat them just for their lycopene.
Interestingly, unlike a lot of other nutrients, lycopene is better absorbed from a cooked tomato vs. a raw tomato. The bioavailability of lycopene increases over 75% when tomatoes are cooked with the peel. Unfortunately, most canned tomato pastes and products available in the market today are made from tomatoes cooked without the peel. This is one of the main reasons why GOOD FOOD FOR GOOD sauces are made using fresh, whole, and organic tomatoes instead of organic tomato pastes or cans. When you cook at home, please use tomatoes with the peel and eat tomatoes as often as you can!
